Las Ventas bull-ring, with a capacity of 25,000, is the largest in Spain and one of the most important in the world. Neo-mudéjar in style and brick-faced, it is decorated with ceramic tiles with the shields of all Spain's provinces being among the decorative elements.
Although the first bull-fight in Las Ventas took place on 17th June 1931, it was not officially inaugurated until 21st October 1934 and the first full season was the following year. The season begins in March and ends in October, and bull-fights take place on Sundays and Public Holidays.
Particularly note-worthy is the Feria de San Isidro, Patron Saint of Madrid, which lasts from mid-May to mid-June with bull-fights every day.
Since 1951 the buildings house the Bull-fighting Museum, a large collection of objects related to bull-fighting and the ring's history.
